I have a rather large vulva, and what I think is the clitoral hood (or labia idk) hangs down like a sac with a lot of smegma between the folds of my vulva. It has an unpleasant smell and I worry that the constant amounts of smegma in my folds is a turn off to guys.
What you are experiencing could either be vaginal discharge or smegma, but it sounds more like discharge.
Smegma (a combination of dead skin cells, oils and moisture) is normal and occurs in females and uncircumcised males. While it may sound gross, it serves an important purpose – it helps to clean and lubricate the genitals. In females, it collects around the clitoris and labia folds, while in males, it occurs under the foreskin. It generally does not have a smell (which is why it sounds more like discharge).
Discharge is a normal occurrence and is part of the vagina’s self-regulating function. It also plays a role in cleaning the vaginal canal. However, where discharge has an unpleasant smell, this can be indicative of a problem, as yeast or a bacterial infections can cause this.
If the unpleasant smell that you are experiencing is anything more than a musky odor (which is normal), it would be a good idea for you to see a healthcare professional who can diagnose the cause.
